As part of AFL Victoria's Community Club Sustainability Program (CCSP) process, an Integrity Review into Mooroopna Football Netball Club's (MFNC) allowable Player Payments for 2022 and 2023 was initiated in February this year. A former MFNC player alerted AFL Goulburn Murray (AFLGM) to alleged salary cap management issues following a transfer denial. Once AFL GM was made aware of the issues, a comprehensive investigation was undertaken.
Three charges were subsequently laid against the club, totalling 53 CCSP breaches, of which 23 were sustained.
An independent Disciplinary Committee held a hearing this week and determined the following;
Charge 1 - $10,500 fine (5,250 suspended)
Charge 2 - Dismissed
Charge 3 - $15,000 fine ($7,500 suspended)
The integrity of competitions is paramount at all levels of the game, and all stakeholders, including leagues, clubs, and players, have a responsibility to adhere to the rules put in place.
AFLGM will continue to support clubs in the management of the CCSP through training and education and availability of RAC resources.
The club has advised that they will not appeal the panel's findings.
